Wildlife and Fisheries Management

Once farmed for rice, French Island now has managed grasslands under the USDA Grasslands program and seasonal wetlands as part of the Texas Prairie Wetlands Program, a partnership between Texas Parks and Wildlife, Natural Resources Conservation Service and Ducks Unlimited.  Five lakes comprising approximately 130 acres total are managed for trophy bass and host sizable numbers of migratory waterfowl.
